Gay adventure travel in Thailand with Alyson Adventures

It's easy to get to know the other travelers in our small, friendly, gay and lesbian groups.

An active, outdoors vacation with Alyson Adventures.

Thailand's friendly people, plus a Buddhist philosophy that avoids western distinctions of gay and straight, give this vacation in southeast Asia a special appeal.

Honah Lee: Gay adventure travel in Thailand

Hike, kayak, raft, and ride an elephant, on our many-faceted Thailand vacation.

Our Thailand vacation begins amidst the hustle of Bangkok. By day, travel along the river to exquisite temples ablaze with thousands of colorful mirrored tiles. By night, the adventurous can explore the city's fabled gay nightlife, or simply enjoy a long dinner of spicy Thai cuisine with other gay men and lesbians.

From Bangkok we head south to the Khao Sok National Park. In the rainforest we travel through lush jungle, as monkeys chatter overhead. Swing from a vine and splash into the river, en route to a waterfall deep in the wilderness. Wind through a remote cave, stalactites dripping from the ceiling, as you follow a subterranean river to its exit.

Finally, we have four nights on the island of Phuket. Spend a day sea-kayaking amongst the cave-studded islands outside Phuket. Other activities here include forest hikes, snorkeling and scuba diving, and just relaxing on a long, sandy beach.

At each stop, you can count on a warm welcome from the people who have given Thailand its nickname, "The Land of Smiles".

If you have time at the beginning of our tour, join us for four nights in and near Luang Prabang, Laos. A three-day trek takes us into some of southeast Asia's most remote tribal villages, many untouched by electricity or telephone, and to a way of life frozen by time. Back in the Laos' ancient capital, Luang Prabang, relax with a soothing massage while gazing across the Mekong River.

Highlights:

  • Explore the canals of Bangkok, the "Venice of the East", en route to a shimmering Buddhist temple.
  • Fall asleep to the lullaby of birdsong in the emerald rainforest.
  • Kayak through a tunnel, into a hidden lagoon on a towering limestone island.
  • Choose between many appealing activities on Phuket Island: snorkel or scuba dive in the sea, hike into the wilderness, or just tan on a sandy beach.
  • Join an optional 5-day per-tour extension based in Luang Prabang, Laos, including two nights of trekking to remote Laotian villages.

Is it the right vacation for you? No special conditioning is necessary, but you should be ready for 5-8 miles of walking on our longest trekking day if you join our Laos extension. Part of the adventure lies in the varied accommodations, food, and travel. On some nights, for example, we stay in a stilt house above a lagoon, with air conditioning provided by the gentle tropical breezes; in Laos, the full group may sleep on mats, in one or two shared rooms, in simple huts. If you welcome a chance to see and experience very different ways of living, you'll love the land of Honah Lee.

Past travellers comment on this trip: "The trip itinerary was well planned and executed. Great local guides. I experienced sights and activities I would have never organized myself."— Rodger Hawkins, Bellevue, Wash.

"Glimmering Buddhist temples, warm and gracious people, delicious food, and stunning jungle vistas. Thailand is a country of great contrasts. My Honah Lee vacation was simply amazing."— Peter Chace, Brooklyn, N.Y.
