Explore Laos and Thailand with Alyson Adventures

It's easy to get to know the other travelers in our small, friendly, gay and lesbian groups.

An active, outdoors vacation with Alyson Adventures.

Trek, spelunk and explore the countryside of Southeast Asia with a great gay group.

Bamboo: Explore Laos and Thailand

See the wild side of Laos and Thailand.

We have offered trips to Thailand for several years, and each time we return, we get requests to explore more of Southeast Asia. Whether trekking further out in the Thai countryside or visiting neighboring countries, we continue to be fascinated by the variety and beauty of the area. After a successful inaugural Bamboo trip to Laos and Thailand in 2003-2004, we are repeating this trip over Christmas and New Years, 2004-5, starting and ending in Bangkok. Getting off the beaten track is one of our trademarks and Laos and the National Parks of Central Thailand offer a whole new world to discover.

We will tour the ancient and glorious city of Luang Prabang, Laos, take a bike and boat trip to see the many small Buddha statues of the Pac Ou Caves, and spend two nights in small native villages sleeping in local homes. Then we fly back to Bangkok Airport, and drive into the countryside where we spend five days exploring two National Parks that feature exquisite mountain lakes and waterfalls, and nearby provincial towns that foreign visitors rarely see. We conclude our trip with New Years Eve celebrations in Bangkok, a favorite destination for gay travelers due to the relaxed and accepting culture. For those with more time, we also are offering a three day extension to the resort town of Pattaya, famous for its beaches, natural beauty, and gay nightlife.

Highlights:

  • Discover the countryside of Laos and Thailand.
  • Trek to a native Laotian village and sleep in a local home.
  • See beautiful waterfalls and take a dip in clear cool water.
  • Celebrate New Years Eve in Bangkok.
  • Hike in two renowned Thai National Parks over rugged terrain and verdant forests.
  • Experience REAL LIFE in Southeast Asia as few tourists ever do.

Is it the right vacation for you? No special conditioning is necessary, but you should be ready for about 5-8 miles of walking on our longest trekking day. Part of the adventure lies in the varied accommodations, food, and travel; on some nights, for example, the full group may sleep on mats, in one or two shared rooms, in simple huts. If you welcome a chance to see and experience a rarely seen side of Southeast Asia, this is for you.

Past travellers comment on this trip: "I will never forget my visit to Southeast Asia. The people, the sights and my group members will stay with me forever. Thank you Alyson Adventures!"— Michael Grit, Guelph, ON, , Canada

"It couldn't have been a better way to spend our 20th Anniversary. Wonderful people in an amazing country."— Rod Massey, Studio City, Calif.
