Alyson Adventures offers two gay trips in Italy: One primarily on bike, the other a hiking and walking trip. Choose from one of these vacations.
- The Flavors of Tuscany. Bike in Tuscany, Italy: Bike from the Renaissance gem of Florence into "Chianti Classico" wine country. Then a winding, panoramic route takes us to the fairy-tale village of San Gimignano, with its turreted, 12th-century skyline; and on to the crooked streets and palaces of Siena.
After the first night in Florence, we spend two nights at each hotel, allowing time to get to know each region in more depth. Tuscany has hills, and part of the fun of this trip is riding over the hills, and enjoying the vistas as you descend the other side. On the last day of the trip, we leave our bikes behind so we can explore the medieval wonders of Siena on a guided tour.
- Tuscan Trails. Hiking in Tuscany, Italy: Our hiking week in Tuscany begins with one night in Florence, including dinner and an informal walking tour of this city in the heart of Tuscany. We then spend four nights in the fairy-tale village of San Gimignano, a walled town of medieval towers, perched on a hill. From here, trek through a patchwork landscape of vineyards, orchards, and oak forests, keeping your eyes open for porcupines, pheasants, and even wild boar. Then we'll transfer to the village of Radda. Despite its location in the heart of "Chianti Classico" wine country, the rugged terrain around Radda is surprisingly wooded. Our daily hikes take us to ancient stone villages, churches, and farms. Follow quiet tracks and roads through forests, fields of wildflowers, and fragrant vineyards. As on our bike trips, this hiking and walking week is designed to allow a mix of group activity and independent hiking. Our coordinator will go out with a group each day; you're invited to walk with this group, or to hike independently with one or two new friends.
