Our hiking vacations offer the best of many worlds. There's always dramatic and ever-changing scenery. There's the camaraderie of sharing a special location with a friendly group of gay men and lesbians. There are many occasions to enjoy the company of a fun group, but also opportunities for solitude. And finally — imagine coming back from your vacation in better shape, and looking better, than when you left!
Alyson Adventures, specializing in active travel for gay men, lesbians, and friends, offers memorable week-long hiking vacations in two countries. (Not every trip is offered every year; our Schedule lets you quickly see dates for a given trip.)
- Edelweiss. Swiss Alps: From our base in the bustling alpine village of Zermatt, explore 388 kilometers of spectacular and well-marked trails. One day, hike past fields of wildflowers and tall waterfalls; the next, take a cablecar to the frosty world of a mountain glacier.
- Alpenglow. Switzerland: Hiking under the Matterhorn is a classic adventure with a variety of pleasures. Our base camp (condo) is in the beautiful city of Zermatt. A charming place of fresh mountain air and a world without cars. Perfectly situated in the foothills of the Alps, there are numerous well-marked footpaths and trails (400 km in all) which will lead us through pine-scented mountain forests, to the shores of calm clear lakes and to the ice-blue glaciers. We’ll spend a week exploring the trails and sleep one night in a mountain hut, allowing us to climb higher and awake in the rosy glow of the morning sun-Alpenglow.
- Grindelwald. Switzerland: Hike in the Alps of chocolate-box covers and calendar illustrators. Using the mountain village of Grindelwald as a base, we'll explore the mountains and glaciers, the pastures and meadows, of this picturesque valley.
- Irish Idylls. Ireland: The Emerald Isle is mystical place of lush pastures, stunning seascapes, grand and aging castles, and romantic fishing villages reminiscent of a time gone by. It is also full of surprises, including some of the finest dining in the world.
Join us for a week of hiking and exploration as we stay in B&B's with traditional Irish hospitality located on the Ring of Kerry and on the picturesque, but less-touristed Dingle Peninsula! Trek to some of the most famous sites in Ireland, some nearby and familiar, others far off the beaten track. Then pop into the local pub for a pulled pint and some traditional music to cap off your day.
- Inca Trail. Peru: Few places in the world offer the combination of natural beauty, history and enchanting mystery that one experiences along the Inca Trail in Peru. A haven for serious hikers and explorers, the natural surroundings, Inca treasures, temples and villages one sees along the trail are truly unforgettable. At the apex of this adventure lies Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, a magical kingdom high above the world.
- Tuscan Trails. Italy: On this Tuscany hiking week we'll start with a night in Florience, then split our time between two villages, hiking over rolling hills and into oak forests alive with pheasants, fallow deer and even wild boar, past ancient stone villages, churches, and farms.
