Get expert rock climbing instruction with a friendly and supportive gay and lesbian outdoors group. Then climb in a spectacular setting, amidst the Rocky Mountains.
Have you always been intrigued by rock climbing and mountaineering? Here's your chance to learn these sports, with a gay and lesbian group, in a spectacular setting: Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
We start with mountain climbing instruction from some of the country's top climbers, with lots of hands-on practice as you learn rock climbing and rappelling techniques. The next two days are open: Enjoy hiking, whitewater rafting, and other outdoors activities here in the Rocky Mountains. Then we head up for a two-day ascent of America's most dramatic peak, the Grand Teton. Get ready for the most exhilarating day of your life!.
- Learn knots, rope work, safe climbing technique, and rappelling from expert instructors.
- Watch for moose, marmots, bald eagles and other animal life as you practice your moves.
- After a day of climbing, cool off in the crystal waters of Jenny Lake.
- Hike through rugged forest, then a valley strewn with boulders the size of log cabins, on our way to base camp, with experienced outdoor guides always ready to help.
- Stand atop the 13,770-foot peak known as the American Matterhorn.
No prior climbing experience is needed, but you should be in very good physical and aerobic condition. We will be led by experienced local guides; nonetheless, mountaineering of any sort involves inherent and unpredictable risks. After the training, if you or your instructor feel you should not attempt to summit The Grand, you'll be able to substitute another climb.
"Thanks for a wonderful trip to the Grand Tetons! It was by far the most exciting trip I have ever taken and far exceeded all my expectations!!" Paul Hinton, Pensacola, Fla.
"The Grand was a challenge of the heart, mind and body! An experience that will re-charge your life's batteries!" Owen J. Edwards, Warminster, Penn.
