Blue Danube: Bike along the Danube

Explore Austria by bike

Our bike tour takes us along one of the most charming bike paths in Europe following the Danube River. Beginning in Linz we will make our way to Vienna on an enchanting ride across gently rolling terrain through fairytale forests and rural hamlets. From castles to cathedrals, we'll see a stunning array of architectural styles.

We'll enjoy a variety of food, wine, beer and culture as we bike through some of the most historic cities of Austria. We'll waltz our way along the river that has inspired artists and musicians for centuries and create our own dreams. The trip starts in Linz and ends in Vienna, two gay-friendly and increasingly popular hot spots in Central Europe

And to warm you up for our biking days in the beautiful Danube valley between Linz and Vienna, we're offering a 4-night non-biking pre-tour extension to see highlights of the nearby Czech Republic! The extension will include two nights in Prague and two nights in the quaint riverside city of Cesky Krumlov. Please see our FAQ page for details about the extension.

Highlights:

  • Start your adventure in Prague on our four-night Czech Extension to this tour (see FAQ page for details).
  • Kick off your Central European tour with a night on the town in gay-friendly Linz.
  • Follow the Danube as it winds alongside what many consider to be the most beautiful bike path in the world.
  • Ride among lush forests and lovely rolling plains.
  • Visit Steyregg Castle, dating back to the late 11th century, featuring a chapel with magnificent gothic frescoes.
  • Enjoy comfortable accommodations and tasty local cuisine at the end of each day.
  • Celebrate your ride with a night in Vienna, a fun and gay-friendly city.
  • If you have the time, join our one-week Danube Dreams ride to Bratislava and Budapest following Blue Danube.
  • Second Trip Discount on Danube Dreams if combined with Blue Danube.

Is it the right vacation for you? This is a classic bike tour with days of 30 to 50 miles over roads that are largely flat, with about a half day of hills. You can keep a leisurely pace, stop for photo opportunities, and enjoy the beauty of the Danube valley; for those who want more cycling, some days have longer optional routes.
